Do you want to lead the technical direction of ScanGO?
We are about to launch version 3.0 of ScanGO, a completely new application for smart parking and enforcement. The first customers are on their way, and every existing ScanGO customer will follow. We are looking for a Tech Lead who owns the code base and the architecture, finds the pragmatic answer to hard problems and helps colleagues grow. You make the architecture decisions for 3.0, with the mandate to act on them.
Our software helps municipalities keep public space accessible. Scan cars in city centres and enforcement officers on the street both rely on it. We started in the Netherlands, our current version is already live in Iceland, and we aim to grow across Europe.
The platform
ScanGO already serves many municipalities. Version 3.0 is a cloud-native SaaS platform that will serve all of them from one codebase.
Scan cars and smart cameras feed number plate observations into the platform. It checks them in real time against national registers, creates cases for enforcement officers to review, and hands fines over to national collection systems.
The architecture is event-driven microservices in a single monorepo. The stack is PHP 8.4 and Laravel 12, Go for platform automation, Next.js and React on the front end, PostgreSQL with PostGIS, RabbitMQ and Redis. It runs on Azure with Kubernetes, GitOps-based deployments and OpenTelemetry-based observability. The platform provisions tenants automatically and supports per-customer configuration, feature flags and configurable case workflows.
What you will do
You will lead the technical work of the ScanGO team and stay hands-on in the code. You define and enforce the standards, make the technical decisions and prioritise issues for the backlog. A big part of the job right now is helping all existing ScanGO customers move to version 3.0, safely and quickly.
Lead the technical side of the move to 3.0, and prepare ScanGO for integration with the other Giant Leap applications
Build and review code alongside the team, manage technical debt, and keep the code base secure and maintainable
Coach developers, set the standard for code reviews, and act as a sparring partner for the Group Manager
Explain technical possibilities and limits to stakeholders, in terms of what customers need
How we work
Municipalities depend on our software every day, so we build things properly. ScanGO is one of the five products in Parksphere, Giant Leap's parking portfolio. Twice a year all five teams come together in Oslo for Parking Days, including the Parksphere AI Hackathon. We actively use AI in how we develop, including Claude Code, and we are careful where it touches our products, because municipalities are rightly cautious.
Is this you?
8+ years of backend experience with PHP, preferably Laravel or a comparable framework, with strong knowledge of REST APIs, relational databases and software architecture
Experience with distributed systems, microservices and event-driven or asynchronous processing, and with running production workloads on Kubernetes with GitOps
You have taken technical lead before, you stay close to the code, and you write tests because it makes the work better, not because someone asks for it
You work with AI tools such as Claude Code, and know how to help a team use them well
You communicate clearly with developers, customers and leadership, understand the business, and can keep several things moving at once
Fluent in Dutch and English, spoken and written. Our team and customers are Dutch, and you will work in English with colleagues and leadership across Giant Leap
Bonus points for experience with RabbitMQ, Redis, PostgreSQL and PostGIS, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure, GitHub Actions, Terraform, ArgoCD, OpenTelemetry, Go or Next.js.
